Tattoo Designs

My extension class had a set task to make two symbols. The first one, representing your nationality. Your second one representing yourself and your favourite things to do.

"Copy and paste this html to open my Product file:///Users/Student/Desktop/Samoan%20Ext/index.html
_____________________________________________________________
The first symbol I have drawn, is the “Teuila” Samoans national flower. Also, in the background, there is the New Zealand Flag. These symbols represent my culture. Because I am half samoan.

The New Zealand flag also represents my culture. Because I am also half New Zealander. One of the most favourite things I like about NZ is that, Theres not that much natural disasters.

The Second symbol I have drawn is a soccer ball, representing my hobby. In the soccer ball, are four turtles. Because the turtle symbol, means family and family members. Which means, I will have four turtles. My Mum, Dad, Sister and I. My Mum and Dad are the adult turtles, and my sister and I are the smaller turtles.

If your having any difficulties, here is my product, in their sequences.

All last week we arrived at camp, doing 5 huge activities. But my favorite would have to be Fire Pit Cooking. I will be showing you a step by step tutorial on how to start your fire. Also how to cook eggs in an orange!

(How to get your fire started)

Step 1: Grab your dry pinewood for the base of the fire.

Step 2: Grab some newspaper.

Step 3: Light your fire with a match.

Step 4: Roast the marshmallows!

Just be sure to replenish pinewood to keep the fire going.

(Egg in a Orange)

Step 1. Grab an orange.

Step 2. Half the orange.

Step 3. Scoop out the orange half

Step 4. Put the egg into the orange.

Step 5. Wrap tin foil and put gently into the fire

Wait around 5 minutes and unwrap and there should be a nice egg in an orange.

Celtic Knot

Back at school and we already have a set task. Simply to draw a pattern, and contribute to the Tangle.

The tangle is called the “Celtic Knot” when there has no beginning or end. Everyone made their own pattern. The knot’s meaning is to bring people together. The knot is woven together, under and over to create the Celtic knot.

I  have made a pattern filled with all different colors and designs. My pattern has meaning to it because I have Samoan designs all over it, Because i’m Samoan.

When that tangle is done, I think that it will look amazing because the different patterns people have made, it would look very colorful.

When I finished my pattern I felt accomplished, because I have contributed to the class.

Warfare In The Future

In the year 2048, all technology will have changed, Including biological warfare. People are making Bioweapons to spread diseases across people, animals and plants.

One of the most powerful weapons that are being made are, properly invisible camouflage. Yes, I did say invisible camouflage, Called Quantum Stealth and made of MetaFlex. But my favorite would have to be, high-powered liquid laser beams, mostly for defensive uses only.

Another part of Biological Warfare is disease. One of the scariest diseases would have to Ebola. It could be genetically enhanced to not show symptoms for over 72 hours. Slowly killing you when you don’t even have a chance to stop it.

Avatar for "Panuba

We had a set task to make an avatar to represent what house I am in. I'm in the Tainui house and our main colour is Blue. The avatar I've created is my main hobby which is playing Minecraft. I have made two swords that have crossed over each other because my favourite weapon in Minecraft is the diamond sword.

I think that I would set myself at a level 3 because I am very capable of managing myself in terms of sitting where ever I would like outside the classroom.

Elections

It's that time of the year again! Elections are a huge part of New Zealand because it decides which party is going to run as New Zealand's Government in the future. There are seven parties all together in New Zealand. But mainly only  two stand out. National, with their leader John Key, Labour, with their leader David Cunliffe.

Votes will only count only at certain places and at certain times. You will vote by ticking your party that you would like to become future government.

If National win, they will get more education for children, mainly for Disabled children. They've also made a promise to invest in making more houses for families. Addition to that, National will Invest One Hundred million dollars over ten years to improve freshwater qualities in our waterways.

Labour on the other hand, will get $16.25 minimum wage. They will also be hiring 2,000 teachers, investing over 100 million dollars towards new classrooms. Finally Labour will provide every student, from years 5-13 will all receive a portable digital device, for schoolwork.

If I had to vote, even though Im to young. I would vote for labour, because labour has more polices than the other parties and Labour has more opportunities in line for me.

Heal The World Reflection

This week us, year 8 boys had the opportunity to make a MTV to show a message about bullying. We had to choose a about 5 songs all created by the extraordinary Michael Jackson. We choose Heal The World because it was really intriguing.

The other main part of this task was about self management. We had to manage ourselves to get this finished by a set time and that was Monday. We had four days to complete this and we accomplished it.

I think that our group were really good at managing ourselves because we got finished at the deadline. Something we could do better is to figure out a song faster, rather than spending a couple days debating about it. Maybe I could contribute more in acting.

Storyline's Reflection

Leaving in a bus we headed towards The Vodafone Events Centre to attend the Storyline's Tour starring four of the most unique authors in New Zealand. The names you might recognise, Catherine Mayo, Paula Green, Jill MacGregor and Juliette Mclver. They had different ways to write and engage the audience.

Firstly we had the 2 amazing authors that were most engaging, Catherine Mayo followed up by Juliette Mclver. Catherine is a more my type of writer because she writes about Ancient Greece and medieval days, and thats what I like. Juliette Mclver is a children's author. She writes more for little kids but she also hooked us in with her Rhymes.

Next was Jill MacGregor and Paula Green. Paula was a Poet and she loved anything to do with Poems and Rhymes, Jill on the other hand, was a School Journalist who wrote all about what she did in the Islands.

Storylines Tour

On Thursday, the 28th of August 2014. The extension class will be going to the Vodafone event centre to attend the Storyline's Tour. There will be four amazing authors, Their names are Catherine Mayo, Juliette Mclver, Jill Macgregor and Paula Green. They will be sharing their amazing stories with us. One author I will be looking forward to is Catherine Mayo because she is all about medieval times and war.

Paula Green was born in the west coast of Auckland. She is a children's author and she was the 2008 judge of the New Zealand post Secondary school poetry Competition.

Catherine was born in Auckland and she was in a band called Gentle Annie. Her musical instrument is the violin.

Juliette Mclver was born in Wellington and she has studied at Victoria University and she has a degree in Linguistics. She is a english teacher and has a diploma in English.

Jill Macgregor was born in Dunedin and she lives in Kapiti coast where she is a school teacher, she was a teacher in Tonga in the 1990's. From then she has travelled nearly all around the Islands.

Questions I would ask Catherine Mayo:

  •    When did you start performing music.
  •     What would you do if you didn't get this Opportunity

Ecstasy

Class 1 have been learning all about drugs. Some drugs are legal and then there are some drugs that are ILLEGAL, drugs can have all different effects and can possibly kill if taken the wrong way.

Ecstasy, also known as XDC and MDMA, is a party drug that is very dangerous and can kill just by taking one. Ecstasy is illegal in many countries and states because it can be very unpredictable . XDC is meant to cause euphoria , meaning extreme happiness. It is to be taken by putting it under your tongue. Ecstasy is disguised as logos and brands such as Toyota, and even a smiley face.

Astria

The whole extension class tested out this game called Astria, Countdown to Impact. Astria is a literacy game to help improve reading skills. You only have 99 days to save the planet from an asteroid. The groups were split into A and B groups. I partnered up with Jacob.

The most difficult part of the game for me was figuring out the key code.

The part I found easy was unscrambling the jumbled words, because the words were not scrambled up good enough. We completed over half the game I think.

Taonga

We have been learning about Mascots. Mascots have a ability to bring good luck to a special event such as the Commonwealth games or the Olympics. This story is going to tell you all about my mascots background.

A mascot is a symbolic figure to an Organisation, it can also bring good luck to the Games.

The 2014 commonwealth games mascot was Shera from India, her name comes from the word Sher, meaning tiger.

This years mascot for the Commonwealth games is Clyde. A purple headed thistle. A thistle is the national plant in Scotland. When they are fully bloomed the top of the plant becomes purple.

The mascot clyde, the thistle, was designed
by A twelve year old Cumbernauld school pupil Beth Gilmour. Beth was amazed when she won the nationwide competition for designing Mascots for the commonwealth.

Clyde was chosen because the judges were impressed with the drawing and it relates to the commonwealth games because its in scotland.

My mascots name is Taonga and he brings good luck to the commonwealth games. He is a native symbol to New Zealand and the Commonwealth games. His favorite fruit is feijoa and when he eats a feijoa he gets super powers and becomes a super athlete. This is my Mascot (Below)

Sam Webster

Sam Webster. A professional sprint cyclist who recently won 3 medals in the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games. Webster is 23 years of age.

Webster competed in the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth games. He raced through to bronze, Competing for silver, then finally entered the finals for gold. Sadly he did not come out with the expectations he expected.

But this year he came out with the expectations that he DID want. He won 1 gold in team sprints, and 1 gold in an individual race. Webster finished second just behind Australian Matthew Glaetzer, just by half a tire. But Sam is alright with the position that he came out with.

Sams friend, Simon van Velthooven, qualified for the 1000m team sprint race. The final result was winning a bronze medal with his team.

Forbes position is a loose flanker, Derek has also played in IRB. Unfortunately I do not know when they have there first game.

B.A.R

Today in extension we challenged ourselves with the 20 thinkers keys. Today we did BAR. B is something that you can make bigger. A is something you can add it the object. And finally R is something you can replace on the object. This is what the students in extension did to my 5 minute house.

Check out what thinker keys and BAR is at: http://www.thinkerskeys.com/

B is making the house itself bigger.

A is adding an extra window.

R is replacing the chimney with an aerial.

Auckland's Violent Night (Writing Sample)

This is a writing sample I did in just 40 minutes. Given by my teacher.
Wild winds in the night of Auckland, New Zealand, leaving a trail of destruction in it’s path. Floods, knocked down trees, making holes in residents houses. It’s causing around 60,000 people to go without power. The streets are filled with litter and debris from trees.

Many schools have had trees tipped over by the storm, many have had surface floods, covering footpaths and doorways.

Several cars have been crushed and crumpled by fallen trees. Many have cars wedged by trees so the car cannot be driven out.

One kid has had to be rushed to hospital last night, fortunately he had minor injuries. But no-one has been seriously hurt.

Vector and other power companies have been working all last night to prevent this from happening again. Vector have restored nearly everyones power!

But the storm has not finished yet, it is expected to move south past Auckland.

Echolocation And Sonar

Echolocation, also known as Bio Sonar is mostly used by animals. Animals such as Bats, Dolphins. Did you know that an ordinary elephant can hear another from New Zealands Town to their city!

Sonar is a technique that is used to navigate objects underwater such as vessels, sunken ships and more. It is mostly used in the Air force and the Army.

Safety In The Water

Did you know, in many countries, drowning is one of the leading causes of death for children aged 12 and under.

Drowning can happen very easily. Drowning is a cause of death from submerging under water till the point until you go unconscious and your lungs cannot get enough air and then finally you die.

That is why kids need to learn to swim at LEAST 200 meters. That shows that the kid can be safe in the ocean.

Drowning to me is quick and silent. Because you can’t ask for help, you can’t seek for help and you can’t shout out.

Up to 10 a day die of drowning in new zealand, from 2005-2009 up to 3,533 died in those years. Roughly 10 die each day in the United States. Most of those deaths were non-boat related. One out of the five people who died were children, 14 years and younger.

I think that swimming is a valuable thing to learn. Because it can help when you’re in need and it can also increase your lung capacity.

Boko Haram

The group is called Boko Haram and they have recently taken over 200 girls from their school in Nigeria. The leader of the group is Abubakar Shekau. He’s using the media to exchange to get his fellow members out of prison and he will free the 200 girls held hostage.

I think that this is very poor of the nigerian government to react so slowly to this horrible situation.

Sound is...

Here is my groups first go at trying to explain the meaning of Sound.

Sound is simply vibrations, sound is started by energy or moving molecules. Sounds can be pleasant unpleasant, high, low, soft and hard. We use sound everyday for example we use sound to communicate, listen to music, or even stay safe(alarms).

Learning in IXL

I have just learnt Geometric Sequences in a program called IXL. This is how I solve the equation.
So if I had this equation, I would solve it like this.

1,    2,    4,    __,    16,    32

Multiply the four by the two.

4 × 2 = 8

To make the pattern complete, the number 8 must go in the blank space.

Fiafia Night

“Fiafia night” a 2 year traditional thing that we do at Point England School. A night that all groups perform on a huge stage to please the audience, kind of like Christmas in the park, but not as much audience. Around like 3,500 people arrive, not that much. But it was even more nervous than ever before, I was a MC. A person who talks alongside 3 other people. Isara, Gloria and Tyla-Marie.

My part was every important because I had to do the mihi to start the Fiafia on a good start. It was nerve wracking, but I couldn’t see anyone because it was too dark. So I wasn’t as nervous. I had to say the mihi to kick start Fiafia off. It went smoothly.

All the Items passed and all of my speech bits and pieces went solid. Then it was my time to do my item. It was called Precisely that! An item choreographed by Mr Barks and mr Sommerville. It was kind of like a military performance. The main item was the rifle. Also followed by white and black clothing. It was funny and serious at the same time.

After that smooth performance, It was the end of Fiafia and all my weariness disappeared when I knew that all of it was finally finished. Fiafia only happens 2 years a time, I am so privileged to be one of the four lucky MC’s for that night.

Speed Challenge

This morning we completed a speed writing challenge. In just 10 minutes we were expected to write about Tiaki Taonga, Read for more details. Then we were given 5 minutes to pair share and proof read and edit.

Our term motto for Point England school is Tiaki Taonga. Tiaki Taonga to me is Caring about our schools treasure or valuables, also about our school, our people and our success.

To show Tiaki Taonga, us, the prefects, did a really wonderful thing. We invented R.A.K week! Random acts of kindness week. To show that to the whole entire school. We handed out lollies  balloons and treats(Just for that day).

That was one of our ways to show Tiaki Taonga. It didn't go to plan because seniors wouldn't be polite and take one for themselves, they snatched handfuls and handfuls of lollies because everyone were cornering us. Beside that, I think our school is very Caring for the community, school and our success.

Skydiving Gone Wrong

On March the 23rd an incident happened in Queensland Australia, when a Skydiving trip went horribly wrong, claiming the lives of 5 people, including two kiwis. Rahi Hohua and Joey King, a  family of 7.

At the start of take off Cessna 206 had very low altitude when it took off, the plane plummeted into the ground then bursted into flames.

When the plane was burst into flames their bodies were very badly burnt. This was Joey’s last  Facebook status, “So I woke up this morning nervous, about the skydiving today. I'm about to conquer my greatest fear. I love everyone lol” That was his final words.

My Diary

17/03/99

Waking up to hear the sounds of the mortar firing across the south africans rough trek at 6 o’clock in the morning. “Man down” Shouted the commissioner. The horses fleeing for their lives. The temperature changed all of a sudden when I woke up, it was freezing cold, then when I woke up it changed to burning hot. It was because of such a fright I got.

Standing up off the rough trek I just slept on had made my back feel like a leech had sucked the life out of it, walking around made my feet twist and I fell to the ground. I took off my boot and sock, to find myself I had trench foot. My foot had saturated and had blisters all over.

The only things that could relax me from all the pain, was food. But the only food in my backpack was hard army biscuits, bully beef and water.

Empathy

Empathy? Empathy is knowing a person's perspective, or knowing their feelings. Empathy is belonging, or making others belong. It can also be relating to others problems.

You can show empathy by looking after someone, or playing with them. For example, if you’re friend is getting mocked at or bullied by someone. After you can go up to your friend and relate to how they are feeling.

Another example for you could be if your friend falls off the playground and injures themselves.
You could help them and feel their pain. You can show many ways of empathy. You can sound Empathetic, Feel and look Empathetic.

This is how you can sound empathetic, if you’re friend is feeling depressed or down. You could ask or relate to their feelings.

Empathy to me is putting yourself in others shoes. Or seeing their picture in their eyes.

The Nature Around Science (Writing Sample)

Title:Nature Behind Science!

"Science Time!" I said to myself, one of the best times of the day. "Today we will be learning about the nature behind science. Mr Barks exclaimed. But we will be learning specifically about temperature." That's different I thought." At the end of class today, I will cook a egg."Mr Barks said with humour .. "BORING" one of the boys said in the class. "But there's more, I will cook an egg, until the whole egg vaporises into the air."

Thinking about how an egg, could vaporise  Mr Barks was actually talking about it at the same time as I was thinking about it. "How continently  I said. Mr Barks talked and talked and talked. Bigger by the minute, it really got more interesting! "The egg is a liquid right, when it hits a hot temperature, it will turn into a solid. Thats just like other foods. Ice Cream. It's cream freezes to the point where it is a solid.

Getting to the end of class Mr Barks was exclaiming to us if could we stand on eggs? Think about it. I'm only about 38 kgs, I take one egg, I put all my weight on it. Take two eggs, I half my weight. Three eggs, I'm only putting on A THIRD of my weight on each egg. So on and so on. I want to try that one day, maybe I could get a Guinness world record for it?

"30 minutes left of school" Mr Barks said." He got his portable stove and one egg. He cracked the egg into the stove and it was like I was at home. After a while I got quite bored because the egg wasn't doing that much. But then, "Pop","Pop" went the egg. Gases fumed out of the egg with tremendous waves of heat. The location of the bubble that had turned quite big and brown, It popped, and egg splattered on Isara and I. The egg didn't vaporise  but it was still funny because the boys had a piece each and their faces after they took a bite.

"That was AMAZING" I shouted to Mr Barks. Lucky we are doing science all year round. Science to me is extrordanary because you learn and have fun blowing up things and burning things until noxious smells come out! I know it will be a lot of fun with Mr Barks and Mrs Nua.

Added Sentences

Getting woken up from my mum, I moaned at her and slowly started to get out of bed. Walking out of my room, I felt sloppy and miserable for myself. Because I had to go to school.

I felt very very unusual about today, so I went downstairs, to find myself, leftovers from last night!  Yes sausage rolls for breakfast!!!
